Yoane Wissa, born on September 3, 1996, in France, plays as a forward/left winger and represents the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team. He began his youth career at age 7 as a goalkeeper before transitioning to midfielder and then forward; he is also adept at playing as a winger and in the No. 10 role. In 2015, he was promoted from the Châteauroux reserve team to the first team. During the 2015-16 season, he made 24 appearances in the French National League, scoring 7 goals. In 2016, he transferred to Angers, during which time he was loaned to Laval and Ajaccio; he left the club in January 2018. That same month, he joined Lorient in Ligue 2, quickly becoming a key player. In the 2019-20 season, his 15 goals helped the team win the Ligue 2 title and gain promotion to Ligue 1. In the 2020-21 season, he made 38 appearances and scored 10 goals, helping the team avoid relegation. Over 3.5 years with Lorient, he totaled 128 appearances and 37 goals. In August 2021, he joined Premier League side Brentford for approximately £8.5 million, signing a four-year contract. Despite missing the pre-season due to eye surgery, he scored 5 goals in his first 6 matches; his spectacular scissors kick in a League Cup match was named the “Best Goal of the Tournament.” In the 2021-22 season, he made 34 appearances and scored 10 goals. In the 2022-23 season, he featured in 40 matches and netted 7 goals; in May 2023, he extended his contract for another three years. In the 2023-24 season, following Ivan Toney’s suspension, he served as the team’s primary striker. Later, as the team adjusted its tactics, he remained a key player and ended the season as the team’s top scorer with 12 goals—including 8 in the final 13 league matches. In the 2024-25 season, he continued to play as a striker despite injuries to other newcomers. He scored 3 goals in his first 4 Premier League matches, and in November, his 3 goals in 4 matches earned him a nomination for Premier League Player of the Month. His goal against Manchester City in January 2025 made him the club’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League. At the end of the season, he had made 39 appearances and scored 20 goals—a personal record for goals in a single season.
